Biomass Engineering Laboratory

Welcome to the Biomass Engineering Laboratory at SDSU. The focus of the research in the laboratory, lead by Dr. Garoma, is on (1) the development of novel treatment processes for water and wastewater, (2) the production of biofuel, and (3) the nexus of water-energy-food.

The group's current research topics include:

• Developing a cost-effective, energy-efficient, and resource-savvy integrated system for algal biomass cultivation, harvesting, dewatering, and conversion
  
• Production of edible oil from algal biomass
  
• Recovery and utilization of resources from various waste streams
  
• Developing a new approach for seawater desalination
